History
Teradomari Station was established as the first-generation Teradomari Station on 20 April 1913, when the Echigo Railway's section between Izumozaki and Jizōdō (now Bunsui) stations opened. On 1 October 1915 it ceded the name "Teradomari" to a station opening on the Nagaoka Railway and was renamed Ōkōzu Station. With the nationalization of the Echigo Railway on 1 October 1927 it came under the National Railways' Echigo Line, and freight handling ended on 1 December 1973 and parcel handling on 1 February 1984. It became a contracted-service station with the introduction of CTC on 31 May 1982. It was renamed Teradomari Station (fourth generation) on 1 November 1986, and passed to JR East in the National Railways' privatization and division on 1 April 1987. From 1 April 1995 it has had contracted station staff under simplified contract to Teradomari Town (later Nagaoka City), and since Bunsui Station became unstaffed in March 2022 it has been the only staffed intermediate station on the Echigo Line between Yoshida and Kashiwazaki.
Notes
Teradomari Station was also a connecting station for the Echigo Kōtsū Nagaoka Line, but the Yoita–Ōkōzu section was abolished in 1973 and the Echigo-Sekihara–Ōkōzu section was also abolished in 1975, leaving it a JR-only station situated about 5 kilometers inland from Teradomari Beach, the port town for which the station is originally named.
