History

Tazawa Station opened on 15 June 1902, simultaneously with the completion of the government railway (later Japanese National Railways) Shinonoi Line's Nishijō–Matsumoto section. Together with Akashina Station, it is one of the oldest stations within Azumino City. Freight handling was discontinued on 10 December 1971. It became a business-consignment station on 16 July 1979, and became an unstaffed, simplified-consignment station on 22 March 1985. It became a station of East Japan Railway Company (JR East) with the 1987 division and privatization of the national railway on 1 April. On 15 March 2025, the Suica IC card became usable, and the station was given the number "SN 07" and incorporated into the Greater Tokyo Area network.

Notes

On 29 June 1979, an accident occurred in which a dedicated cement train, departing from track 2 three minutes ahead of schedule, ran into a safety siding and derailed.
