History
Tateyama Station is located at Senjugahara, Ashikuraji, Tateyama Town, Nakaniikawa District, Toyama Prefecture, and is a connecting station between Toyama Chihō Railway's Tateyama Line and the Tateyama Kurobe Kankō Tateyama cable car. It opened on 1 August 1954 as a provisional terminus from Awasuno Station, as the end of Tateyama Development Railway's Tateyama Line, and on 13 August of the same year the cable line's Senjugahara Station also opened. On 1 July of the following year, 1955, the line was extended 500 metres to a permanent station and Senjugahara Station was completed. The railway line was transferred to Toyama Chihō Railway in 1962, and the station was renamed to its present name, "Tateyama Station," in 1970. A new station building was completed in 1982, and the cable line became a station of Tateyama Kurobe Kankō through a 2005 merger. As the gateway on the Toyama Prefecture side of the Alpine Route, it has a two-level station building, and the undergrounding of power lines on the station plaza was completed in 2022.
Notes
On 28 May 1969, an imperial train carrying Emperor Shōwa and Empress Kōjun arrived at and departed from this station in conjunction with the 20th National Afforestation Festival, and in September 1995 a three-piece stainless-steel monument evoking the Tateyama mountain range, up to 12 metres in height, was erected on the station plaza.
