Location

History

Tashiro Station opened on 11 December 1889 at the opening of the (first) Kyushu Railway, making it one of the oldest stations in Kyushu; it is located on the Kagoshima Main Line in Sakuramachi, Tosu City, Saga Prefecture. The Nagasaki Main Line was originally planned to branch off from this station, but the branch point was later changed to Tosu Station. After Kyushu Railway's 1907 nationalization it was operated by the national railway; freight handling ended in 1961 and parcel handling in 1984, leaving it unstaffed for a time. It was inherited by JR Kyushu at the 1987 JNR privatization, began accepting the IC card SUGOCA in 2009, and became unstaffed again in March 2015.

Notes

As a measure against station overruns, the footbridge is painted in orange and blue fluorescent paint.
