History

Tamamura Station opened on 5 November 1931 as a station on the privately operated Jōsō Railroad. Through wartime and post-war mergers — first into Jōsō-Tsukuba Railway in 1945, then into Kantō Railway in 1965 — the station has remained on what is now the Jōsō Line, 31.0 km from the line's starting point at Toride. The station building was rebuilt in July 1967; agency ticket sales, handled off the station premises from the 1970s, ended on 16 July 1982, leaving the station unattended. Today the station has no building, only a simple waiting room on the single side platform serving bidirectional traffic. PASMO IC card acceptance began on 14 March 2009.
