History

Tamae Station opened on 3 April 1925 in Yamada, Hagi City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, when the Railway Ministry's Mine Line was extended between Nagato-Misumi Station and Hagi Station. On 24 February 1933 a section of the Mine Line including this station was incorporated into the San'in Main Line, and the station became part of that line. Freight handling was discontinued in 1963, and baggage handling in 1985. From 1968 station operations were contracted to the Nihon Kōtsū Kankōsha company. The station passed to JR West at the division and privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. In the heavy-rain disaster of July 2013, the section between Masuda and Nagatoshi was suspended for a long period, and service between this station and Nagatoshi resumed on 4 August of that year.

Notes

Although the station building still stands, the station is unstaffed and managed by the Nagato Railway Division; tickets are handled mainly through on-board fare settlement rather than ticketing equipment inside the station building.
