History
Tako Station opened on 15 November 1954 as a new intermediate stop on the Japanese National Railways Kisei Nishi Line, inserted between Wabuka and Tanami in what is now Kushimoto, Wakayama. The current station building dates from March 1959, the same year the line was rolled into the through Kisei Main Line on 15 July. Parcel handling ended in October 1972 and the station was destaffed on 14 March 1985. Operation passed to West Japan Railway on 1 April 1987 with the privatization of JNR, and ICOCA contactless ticketing arrived on 13 March 2021. It is a single-platform, single-track unstaffed halt.
Notes
Although named for Tako, the station actually stands in the neighbouring Wabuka (Akase) hamlet; it sits a little back from Route 42 and is easy to miss, though the highway does carry a sign pointing the way.
