History
Takeura Station opened on 16 February 1897 as a general station of the Hokkaido Colliery Railway named Shikiu Station. It passed to the Government Railway in the railway nationalization of 1 October 1906, and it was renamed Takeura Station on 1 April 1942 to match a reorganization of district names. From the Taishō era into the early Shōwa era, a dedicated gravel line and Japan Steel Works' Shikiu mine dedicated line branched off, but both were removed in turn. Freight handling ended in 1972 and parcel handling in 1985; JR Hokkaido took over the station at the 1987 privatization and division of Japanese National Railways. Simplified consignment ended on 1 June 2007, and the station became unstaffed.
Notes
Until 1942, the station carried the name Shikiu after the local Ainu place name; it was renamed to Takeura when surrounding place names were updated for being deemed phonetically awkward.
