History

Takehara Station opened on 10 July 1932 as the then-terminus of the Ministry of Railways' San-Kure Line, when the route was extended from Akisaizaki. The line was extended onward to Mitsu-Naikai (today's Yasuura) on 17 February 1935, after which Takehara became an intermediate stop, and on 24 November the same year it was incorporated into the unified Kure Line. A new station building was completed on 23 August 1970, and a Midori-no-Madoguchi reserved-ticket office opened on 1 October the same year. Privatisation in April 1987 transferred the station to JR West, where it now carries station number JR-Y25. The station is barrier-free since 2013 and serves as a stop for the seasonal etSETOra tourist train.

Notes

Takehara Station is mentioned in the slice-of-life anime series Tamayura.
