History
Takaoka Station opened on 1 November 1898 when the government-built Hokuriku Line was extended from Kanazawa; the privately owned Chūetsu Railway had already opened its own Takaoka station on 2 January 1898, on completion of its line from the Kuroda provisional stop. On 5 April 1909 the Chūetsu Railway closed its own station and began sharing the government-built facility. Under a reorganisation on 1 August 1942 the Chūetsu Line was split at Takaoka into the Himi Line (toward Fushiki) and the Jōhana Line. JR West took over at privatisation on 1 April 1987, an overhead concourse opened on 28 August 2011, and on 14 March 2015 the conventional Hokuriku Main Line section was transferred to the Ainokaze Toyama Railway when the Hokuriku Shinkansen reached Kanazawa.
Notes
Departure melodies at Takaoka are played on the orin singing bowl -- a piece of the city's traditional Takaoka copperware -- in an original composition titled "Koshi no Takaoka."
