History

Takaiwa Station opened on 11 March 1919 as Takaiwa Halt, handling passenger traffic only, when the Saku Railway's section between Haguroshita Station and Kōmi Station came into service. The Saku Railway was nationalized on 1 September 1934 and the station was absorbed into the Railway Ministry's Kōmi Kita Line (later the Kōmi Line), becoming Takaiwa Station. It became a JR East station with the division and privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. In 1991 the station's waiting room was rebuilt in a European mountain-lodge style, but it burned down completely in a fire of suspicious origin on 19 December 1995, and a new mountain-lodge-style waiting room was built in December 1996. It is located at Hozumi, Sakuho, Minamisaku District, Nagano Prefecture, and is a ground-level, unstaffed station with a single side platform serving one track.

Notes

The European-style, mountain-lodge-style waiting room, completely destroyed by a suspected arson fire on 19 December 1995, was demolished, and a new mountain-lodge-style waiting room was rebuilt in December 1996.
