Location

History

Takahama Station opened on 4 November 1895 as a station of the Nippon Railway. Because the site lay on soft alluvial ground near the mouth of the Koise River, laying the track before opening was a difficult undertaking in which the embankment repeatedly subsided. After the 1906 nationalization of the railways, the 1909 line-naming order placed it on the Jōban Line. Freight handling ended in 1971 and parcel handling in 1984; the station passed to JR East at the division and privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. Suica became usable there on 18 November 2001, the Midori no Madoguchi ticket office closed in 2006, and station operations have been contracted out since April 2018.

Notes

A monument to Miyazawa Kenji, who was stranded at this station by high water on the Koise River while travelling to Tokyo, stands within the station grounds.
