History
Takagimachi Station opened on 10 April 1928 as a station of the Miyagi Electric Railway. Wartime nationalisation on 1 May 1944 brought it under the Ministry of Transport and Communications, and freight and parcel handling ended in July 1956 and July 1970 respectively. The station passed to JR East at the 1 April 1987 privatisation. After the 11 March 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake it was closed and reopened on 28 May 2011. During the post-quake recovery, a connecting line between Takagimachi and the Tōhoku Main Line at Matsushima Station was planned to allow Senseki Line trains from the Ishinomaki direction to run through to Sendai; authorised by MLIT on 25 March 2013, it opened on 30 May 2015 as the Senseki-Tōhoku Line.
Notes
The junction with the Senseki-Tōhoku Line is treated as part of Takagimachi's track layout; once radio-system changeovers were moved onto the platform, trains could pass through the connecting line without the mandatory operational stop they previously required.
