History

Suzuran-no-Sato Station is a station on the East Japan Railway Company (JR East) Chūō Main Line, located in Fujimi, Fujimi Town, Suwa District, Nagano Prefecture. It is a newly built station whose construction cost of roughly ¥200 million was borne by Seiko Epson, which has a business site nearby, with the aims of securing employee access and promoting rail use; at the company's request, the station was named after Suzuran Kōgen ("Lily-of-the-Valley Highland"), an alternative name for the Nyūkasa Highlands. A groundbreaking ceremony for the new station's construction was held on 9 July 1985, and it opened on 31 October that year as an unstaffed Japanese National Railways station handling passengers only. It became a JR East station with the division and privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987, was incorporated into the Tokyo Metropolitan Area fare zone in 2014, and Suica became usable there from 2017. In February 2025 it was assigned station number CO 54.

Notes

The station opened with Seiko Epson bearing roughly ¥200 million of the construction cost to provide access to its business site, and the name Suzuran-no-Sato was likewise given at the company's request, taken from Suzuran Kōgen, an alternative name for the Nyūkasa Highlands.
