History

Suzurandai Station opened as "Obe" Station on 28 November 1928, when Kobe Arima Electric Railway opened its line between Minatogawa and Dentetsu-Arima (now Arima Onsen). It was renamed "Suzurandai" Station on 1 August 1932, the name evoking the delicate lily-of-the-valley (suzuran) flowers that bloom on the highland there. The Miki Electric Railway section between this station and Hirono Golf-jō-mae (now the Ao Line) opened on 28 December 1936; the station became one of Shin'yū Miki Electric Railway through the merger of 9 January 1947, of Kobe Electric Railway (Kōbe Denki Tetsudō) through the company-name change of 30 April 1949, and of Kobe Electric Railway (Kōbe Dentetsu) through the company-name change of 1 April 1988. An elevator connecting the platforms with the underpass was installed on 26 March 2011, and a south ticket gate was also newly added. On 25 September 2018 a bridge-type station building spanning the tracks came into use, joined to the "Belst Suzurandai" station building that houses the Kita Ward Office and commercial facilities, and a redevelopment project including improvements to the station plaza was completed in July 2020. Its station number is KB06.

Notes

Before the war, the Suzurandai area flourished as a summer resort with dance halls and beer halls, and was celebrated as the "Karuizawa of Kansai."
