History

Susa Station opened on 25 March 1928 as the terminus of the Ministry of Railways' San'in Main Line, when the line was extended from Iinoura. The line was further extended to Utagō on 24 February 1933, and Susa became an intermediate stop. Freight operations ended on 1 March 1978 and parcels on 1 February 1984. The station passed to JR West at the 1987 privatisation of JNR. The original wooden building burned down by arson on 4 February 2002, and the present "Fureai Station Susa" replacement opened in April 2004. From 18 April 2021 the TWILIGHT EXPRESS Mizukaze cruise train began stopping here.

Notes

Susa is one of the rural northern San'in Main Line stops where JR West's flagship TWILIGHT EXPRESS Mizukaze cruise train pauses — the down-bound "San'in Course" service has stopped here since 18 April 2021.
