History
Suō-Sayama Station opened on 26 March 1925 with the Ube Railway's extension between Ogōri (present-day Shin-Yamaguchi) and Hon-Achisu (present-day Achisu) stations. It became a station on the state railway's Ube East Line upon the Ube Railway's nationalization in May 1943, and became a general-traffic station in June 1945. In February 1948, it came under the Ube Line when the Ube East Line was renamed. The station building was rebuilt in March 1962, and freight handling ended in September of that year. It became an unstaffed, contracted (simplified) station in October 1971, and passed to JR West at the April 1987 division and privatization of Japanese National Railways. The contracted operation was also discontinued in 2012. It is a ground-level station with a single side platform serving one track on the right side facing toward Ube-Shinkawa, with the station building facing the platform.
