History
Sumiyoshi Station opened on 12 April 1905, when the Hanshin Main Line opened. Hanshin Electric Railway operates it. The station was raised from street level onto an elevated viaduct in July 1929, and its stairways carry round windows recalling that early Shōwa-era design. The Great Hanshin earthquake of 17 January 1995 damaged the line and halted service; the Aoki–Mikage section, including this station, reopened on 11 February 1995, and full service resumed by 26 June 1995. Station number HS-24 was assigned on 1 April 2014, and elevators and movable platform screen doors entered service on 29 March 2026. Today Sumiyoshi has two elevated side platforms, serves only local trains, and sits between Uozaki and Mikage on the Hanshin Main Line.
Notes
The station sits just 500 meters from neighboring Mikage Station, the shortest gap between any two stops on the Hanshin Main Line.
