History
Sugita Station was established as Sugita Signal Station on 11 September 1917. It was renamed Sugita Signal Point on 1 April 1922, and opened as a general station on 19 December 1948. This followed the final bill passed by the House of Peers of the 92nd Imperial Diet on 31 March 1947, which established freight and passenger handling there on a petition by Hironao Takahashi, deputy of former Sugita Village acting as its head, and others. It is located in Sugitamachi 1-chōme, Nihonmatsu City, Fukushima Prefecture, and is now a station on JR East's Tōhoku Main Line. Freight handling ended in 1974 and parcel handling in 1984, and it became unstaffed on 1 December of that year. It became a JR East station at the National Railways' privatization and division on 1 April 1987, and Suica became usable from 14 March 2009.
