Location

History

Sudo Station opened on 20 January 1953 as a station of the Gakunan Railway, taking its name from the former village of Sudo. A dedicated siding served the Fukusen Brewing Works (now Fukusen Sangyō) west of the station, carrying raw materials and finished seasonings until around 1970, and chemicals were also handled for Tsurumi Soda and Harima Chemicals, but all of this traffic was eventually discontinued. The end of Harima Chemicals' tank-car traffic in April 1989 left the station with no scheduled freight trains at all. Operation passed from Gakunan Railway to Gakunan Electric Train on 1 April 2013. The station building has been removed and the sidings redeveloped as housing and road; the unstaffed station now consists only of a single island platform serving two tracks.

Notes

Sudo Lake, among the sights in the area around the station, was historically counted as one of the "Eight Lakes of Fuji" (Fuji-hakkai). Walking north from the station also leads to Ōtana Falls in the Sudo Valley, although the falls lie a long way off.
