History
Sodegaura Station is on JR East's Uchibō Line in Narawa, Sodegaura, Chiba. It opened on 21 August 1912 as Naraha Station, named after the then-existing village of Naraha, on the Japanese Government Railways' Kisarazu Line. After the line was successively redesignated the Hōjō Line (1919), Bōsō Line (1929), Bōsō West Line (1933) and then renamed the Uchibō Line on 15 July 1972, the station was renamed Sodegaura on 31 March 1974. JR East took over at privatisation on 1 April 1987, automatic ticket gates appeared on 4 November 1995 and Suica became usable on 18 November 2001. Some rapid services began stopping on 1 December 2001 and all rapid services from 16 October 2004. A north–south free passageway opened on 11 October 2014 and the new bridge-style station building the following day. The old wooden station building had been the oldest on the Uchibō Line. The station has a single island platform serving two tracks.
Notes
The old wooden station building at Sodegaura, in use from the station's opening in 1912, was the oldest station building on the entire Uchibō Line; it remained in service until the current bridge-style building opened on 12 October 2014.
