History

Shōwa Station opened on 20 March 1931 as Shōwa halt on the Tsurumi Rinkō Railway, handling passengers only. It was upgraded to a full station when the Tsurumi Rinkō Railway was nationalized on 1 July 1943, becoming a station on the Ministry of Railways' Tsurumi Line. It became unstaffed on 1 March 1971, was transferred to JR East with the division and privatization of JNR on 1 April 1987, and the IC card Suica became usable from 22 March 2002. Ticket sales at vending machines ended on 30 September 2016, and a simplified new station building entered service on 30 September 2017. It is a ground-level station with a single side platform serving one track, and its station facilities are adjacent to Resonac's Kawasaki plant.

Notes

The station name comes from the nearby factories of Shōwa Hiryō (now Resonac) and Shōwa Sekiyu (now Idemitsu Kosan), though there was no capital relationship between the two companies.
