History

Shiyakusho-Mae Station (station number DY18) is a stop on the Hakodate City Tram Main Line in Hakodate, Hokkaido, operated by the Hakodate City Transportation Bureau. It opened on 30 October 1913 as Tsuruoka-Kobanmae Station, was renamed Tsuruoka-cho Station before 1938, and took its present name, meaning "in front of city hall," on 23 April 1947, its second renaming since opening. New platforms entered service on 23 January 2008, rebuilt across the intersection from the earlier site as a staggered pair of relative platforms, roofed and fitted with windbreak panels in a barrier-free design matching the neighboring Uoichiba-dori stop. Today it stands near Hakodate City Hall, the city fire department, National Route 279, and several hotels.

Notes

The stop has carried three different names since it opened in 1913, being renamed twice — the second time in 1947, when it took the name it holds today, which literally means "in front of city hall."
