History
Shiroshita Station opened as Miyoshi-machi Station, the starting point of the Aoki Line, on Ueda Onsen Electric Tramway on 17 June 1921. It lost its function as the line's starting point when the Chikuma River bridge opened in 1924 and through service to Ueda Station began; in 1927 it was relocated onto a dedicated right-of-way and renamed Shiroshita Station. It became a station on the Bessho Line following the 1938 abolition of the Aoki Line and the line-name change the following year, and passed through repeated mergers and company-name changes to the present Ueda Electric Railway in 2005. It became unstaffed in 1972, but was temporarily staffed again as a transfer hub for replacement buses when the Chikuma River bridge collapsed in Typhoon Hagibis in 2019, reverting to an unstaffed station when full service resumed in March 2021.
Notes
Following the 2019 collapse of the Chikuma River bridge between this station and Ueda Station, the station became the turnback point for replacement buses, and a provisional arrangement using only the north-side platform, along with re-staffing in a temporary station office, continued for about a year and a half.
