History

Shin-yashiki Station is a Kagoshima City Tram First-Phase Line tram stop in Shin-yashiki-chō, Kagoshima. It was opened on 3 July 1914 by Kagoshima Electric Tramway, the privately-owned predecessor of today's municipal tram, and on 1 July 1928 was transferred to the Kagoshima City Electric Bureau (today the Kagoshima City Transportation Bureau). Only Route 1 (Taniyama – Kagoshima-eki-mae) uses the stop. The two side platforms can be crossed by riders at any time the tram is not passing, and both have approach indicators and announcements; standard wheelchairs can use the stop but motorised wheelchairs are not permitted because the platform width is below the regulation minimum.

Notes

The stop is named for the local district Shin-yashiki-chō; surrounding it are the Minami-Nippon Broadcasting (MBC) building, the Kagoshima Prefectural Housing Supply Corporation buildings, the Kagoshima-Chūō Police Station and the prefectural police budōkan martial-arts hall, plus the Shin-yashiki Onsen and Kagoshima Women's Junior College.
