History
Shin-Sakaemachi Station was established on 15 June 1960 with the extension of the Nagoya Municipal Subway Higashiyama Line from Sakaemachi Station (now Sakae Station) to Ikeshita Station. It lies northwest of the former Nagoya Municipal Tramway Sakaemachi Line's Shin-Sakaemachi stop, which stood near the Shin-Sakaemachi intersection on Hirokōji-dōri. In February 2010, elevators connecting the concourse to platforms 1 and 2 were installed to coincide with the opening of the Mazak Art Plaza and accessibility improvements. The "manaca" IC card came into use on 11 February 2011, and platform doors began operating on 16 November 2015.
Notes
"Shin-Sakaemachi," the neighborhood that gave the station its name, was largely reorganized between 1969 and 1981 under residential address reforms into Sakae 4-chōme, Higashi-Sakura, Shin-Sakae, and Aoi, and no longer exists as a place name.
