History
Shinmei Station opened on 23 February 1924 as Heiei Station (兵営駅), then the terminus of the newly opened Fukubu Electric Railway line. The line was extended to Fukui-shi Station on 26 July 1925, making Shinmei an intermediate stop. The station was renamed Chūō Station in April 1939, then took its current name, Shinmei, in June 1946, after the line had passed in 1945 to newly formed operator Fukui Railway. Its building was moved from the station's east side to the west side on 16 April 1958. Today it is a staffed, ground-level station on the Fukui Railway Fukubu Line with an island platform and a side platform, and it records the highest ridership among Fukui Railway stations in Sabae.
Notes
Before World War II, the station itself was used to move troops of the Imperial Japanese Army's 36th Infantry Regiment, and its front entrance faced east, the opposite side from the west-facing entrance it has today.
