Location

History

Shinden Station opened on 20 December 1899 in what was then Shinden village, Kita-Adachi District, Saitama Prefecture, taking its name from the village. Service was suspended from 2 December 1908 until the station reopened on 10 November 1925. Before its tracks were elevated, the station was at ground level with two opposing platforms; elevation was completed in stages, the up line in December 1985 and the down line in December 1988. Since the rebuild, a single elevated island platform serves the station's two stopping tracks, used by local trains only, while two outer tracks let non-stop services bypass it. Today it is Tobu Isesaki (Skytree) Line station TS-18, serving Sōka, Saitama, 20.5 km from Asakusa.

Notes

The station's outer bypass tracks were not built for Shinden's own elevation: they were added because, while the next section of line, between Shinden and Koshigaya, was being elevated, nearby Gamo Station temporarily lost its ability to let express trains overtake locals there, so local trains waited to be overtaken at Shinden instead.
