History
Shinchi-Chūkagai opened on 16 November 1915 as Tsuki-machi on the same day the Nagasaki Electric Tramway's first phase began. The original platform stood at the foot of the Chōkyū Bridge, on a line that ran just under 3.7 km from Tsuki-machi to Byōin-shita. The stop was abolished on 25 December 1920 when the Tsuki-machi – Furumachi extension opened, and reopened about 40 years later, on 5 October 1961, when the Ōura Branch Line was re-routed to diverge here rather than at the Sembachō stop, which closed in exchange. Renamed Shinchi-Chūkagai on 1 August 2018 to direct visitors to the nearby Nagasaki Chinatown, it is stop number 31 and one of the network's busiest transfer points.
Notes
The section from Nagasaki-ekimae to Shinchi-Chūkagai is the most crowded on the Nagasaki Electric Tramway, and because the stop is also a transfer point its platforms are busy at all times: in the school-trip season passengers who cannot fit on the platform spill out onto the carriageway.
