History
Shin-Seto Station opened on 1 February 1927 as Yokoyama Station on the privately operated Seto Electric Railway. It was renamed Owari-Yokoyama Station on 1 June 1935, and was absorbed into the Meitetsu group in 1939 when the railway was merged into Nagoya Railroad. The station took its present name on 1 November 1971. It gained an overhead station building above its two ground-level platforms on 20 July 1989 and has accepted the Manaca IC card since 11 February 2011. In recent years a new built-up district has grown around the station, although Seto's traditional town centre remains the area around Owari-Seto.
Notes
Within Seto city, Shin-Seto has overtaken the older Owari-Seto terminus to become the busiest station, even though the historic centre of town remains around Owari-Seto.
