History
Shin-Moriyama Station opened on 1 April 1964 as a new combined passenger and freight stop on the Chūō Main Line, inserted between Kachigawa and Ōzone after a long campaign by the former city of Moriyama (merged into Nagoya in 1963). The "Shin" prefix distinguished it from Moriyama-shi Station on the Meitetsu Seto Line (today's Moriyama-Jieitai-mae) and from the JNR's Moriyama Station in Moriyama-chō, Shiga Prefecture. Container freight ended in 1984 and resumed in 1989; rail freight ceased in 1997, when the JR Freight depot was reduced to a road-haul interchange, and the remaining truck service ended in 2005. JR Central took over passenger services at the 1987 privatisation.
