History
Shin-Kurobe Station is a petition station that opened between Nagaya and Shitayama on the Toyama Chihō Railway Main Line on 26 February 2015. Kurobe City and Toyama Chihō Railway had held discussions since 2005 aimed at connecting the line with the Hokuriku Shinkansen's Kurobe-Unazuki Onsen Station, and agreed to build the new station on 28 March 2011. In addition to a construction cost of about 200 million yen, the city was to bear the cost of building a covered pedestrian walkway and parking lot linking it to the shinkansen station. The provisional name was adopted as the official station name, "Shin-Kurobe Station," on 27 September 2013, and construction began that October. It is only 300 meters from neighboring Shitayama Station, the shortest distance between stations on any of Toyama Chihō Railway's rail lines.
Notes
Although the official transfer time between Shin-Kurobe and the Hokuriku Shinkansen platforms at Kurobe-Unazukionsen is quoted as ten minutes, the actual walk under the covered connecting passage takes about three.
