Location

History

Shin-Hakushima Station, opened on 14 March 2015, is a jointly built new station of JR West's Sanyō Main Line and the Hiroshima Rapid Transit Hiroshima New Transit Line 1 (Astram Line). It is an interchange station built at the point where the two lines cross, located in Nishi-hakushimachō, Naka-ku, Hiroshima City. The JR side has two side platforms and two tracks; the Astram Line side is a semi-underground station with one island platform and two tracks; the two stations, about 120 m apart, are connected by a roughly 68.7 m passage. Hiroshima City projected daily demand of about 20,000 for JR West, about 10,000 for the Astram Line, and about 8,000 transferring between the two stations. A council to study the establishment of a new JR Hakushima station was set up in November 2003, and construction began on 8 January 2013.

Notes

Originally targeted for spring 2014, the JR side of Shin-Hakushima was delayed to 14 March 2015 by additional ground works and cost-control measures.
