History
Shimoji Station opened as the Toyokawa Railway's Shimoji stopping place at Shimoji-chō, Hoi District, on 23 December 1925, and handled passengers only. It became Shimoji Station on the Japanese National Railways Iida Line when the Toyokawa Railway was purchased and nationalized on 1 August 1943; it became a contracted-staff station in 1969 and was unstaffed in 1985, before passing to JR Central at the division and privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. TOICA became usable in March 2010, and station number CD02 was assigned with the introduction of station numbering in March 2018. The station building was rebuilt on 16 March 2024, becoming the first case of using aluminum alloy salvaged from scrapped Tōkaidō Shinkansen cars ("Tōkaidō Shinkansen Recycled Aluminum") in a station building.
Notes
The current station building, put into use in March 2024, is the first station building to use as a building material "Tōkaidō Shinkansen Recycled Aluminum," an aluminum alloy recycled from scrapped Tōkaidō Shinkansen cars.
