Location
History
Shimo-Uwa Station opened on 2 July 1941 as a Railway Ministry station on the Yosan Line. Freight and parcel handling ended on 8 November 1971, leaving it unstaffed except for operating staff. It became a JR Shikoku station at the JNR privatization of 1 April 1987. It is a ground-level station with two opposed platforms and two tracks; the entry-speed restriction imposed by its Y-shaped turnout and a platform effective length of only four cars are constraints on scheduling when limited expresses are lengthened. Its station number is U23, and it is located at Kaita, Uwachō, Seiyo City, Ehime Prefecture.
Notes
Because the platform's effective length is only four cars, limited express trains lengthened during peak seasons can neither exchange nor make an operational stop at this station, making it a bottleneck for train scheduling.
