History

Shimizumachi Station is a stop on the Iyotetsu Jōhoku Line in Shimizumachi 1-chōme and 2-chōme, Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture, with stop number 12. It is used by city tram (Matsuyama City Line) routes 1 and 2. The stop was established in 1927. After the Jōhoku Line's operating interval was shortened from 15 to 10 minutes in 1951, the passing track toward Kami-Ichiman and Dōgo-Onsen was removed in 1953; traces of it remain today. Around 1977, the platform was relocated from a position before the level crossing to its present site.

Notes

Shimizumachi Station was once a passing stop with two platforms and two tracks, but after the Jōhoku Line's operating interval was shortened in 1951, the passing track toward Kami-Ichiman and Dōgo-Onsen was removed in 1953. It is now a through stop with two platforms sharing a single track, though traces of the removed track still remain around the station.
