History

Shima-Isobe Station is a stop on the Kintetsu Shima Line in the city of Shima, Mie Prefecture. It opened on 23 July 1929 as Hasama Station on the Shima Electric Railway, whose line ran from Toba to Shinju-kō (Pearl Port, since closed); the operation passed through a series of mergers — into Mie Kōtsū in 1944 and Mie Electric Railway in 1964 — before becoming part of the Kintetsu network in 1965, and the station was rebuilt and given its present name in 1970. It stands in the former town of Isobe, now part of the city of Shima, and is a staffed station managed from Toba Station. The station was once the gateway to Shima Spain Village, but the direct buses to the park ended in 2007 and now run from Ugata Station instead.
