History
Shiyakushomae Station is a tram stop on the Kagoshima City Tram First Line, in Yamashita-chō, Kagoshima City. It opened on 26 October 1914 as Fudankōin stop, was renamed Sanbashidōri around 1921, and was later suspended for a period before reopening on 28 December 1948, when it became the starting point of the newly rerouted Kamimachi Line. It took its present name on 19 May 1956. The Kamimachi Line was abolished on 1 October 1985, after which Line 2 trams began and ended here. The station has two opposing side platforms, wheelchair-accessible but too narrow for powered wheelchairs, and today serves Lines 1 and 2 toward central Kagoshima.
Notes
When the Kamimachi Line closed in 1985, a single track from the junction here toward the former Shigakkō-ato stop was deliberately left in place as a siding; it was removed only in 1991, when Kagoshima-Ekimae stop was expanded to three tracks and the Line 2 route was extended there.
