History

Shijima Station opened on 22 June 1915 on what is today the Hokuriku Railroad Ishikawa Line, in the city of Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture. The station once had an island platform serving two tracks with passing facilities, but in 1965 those facilities were transferred to Nuka-Jūtakumae Station, which took that name from Ōnuka Station at the same time, leaving Shijima with the single side platform serving one bi-directional track that it has today. The station is unstaffed, and the earlier layout can still be made out in the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan's 1963 aerial photographs. The station is numbered I10.
