History

Shibata Station opened on 18 February 1912 as Hoshizaki Station, a station on the Aichi Electric Railway. It was renamed Shibata Station on 7 March 1917 after Moto-Hoshizaki Station opened on the Arimatsu Line (now the Nagoya Main Line). The Aichi Electric Railway merged into Meitetsu on 1 August 1935, bringing the station into the Tokoname Line, which reaches the station 6.1 rail kilometres from its terminus at Jingū-mae. Tracks were elevated for the down line on 18 December 2004 and for the up line on 1 July 2006, when the station was destaffed under Meitetsu's centralised station-management system; manaca contactless fares began on 11 February 2011.

Notes

Shibata is Nagoya's southernmost Meitetsu Tokoname Line station — the next stop, Nawa, lies across the Tenpaku River in the city of Tōkai.
