History
Sattsuru Station opened on 14 November 1929 as a general station of the Japanese Government Railways on what is now the Senmō Main Line, its name then written 札鶴. When Kami-Shari Village became Kiyosato Town in 1955, the local district was reorganised as Sattsuru-chō, and the station's written name was changed to 札弦 on 10 April 1956. A spur to the Sattsuru Veneer plant opened on 15 January 1963. Freight handling ended on 10 September 1982, parcels on 1 February 1984, and the last staff withdrew on 1 November 1986, after which the station was simply commissioned. JR Hokkaido took over at the 1987 privatisation, and the simple commission lapsed on 1 April 1992, leaving the station fully unstaffed. The former through siding, opposite platform, and freight platform have all since been removed.
Notes
The name comes from the Ainu name of the Sattsuru River, sak-ru ('summer road').
