Location

History

Sasebo-Chūō Station opened on 10 March 1990 on the third-sector Matsuura Railway's Nishi-Kyūshū Line in central Sasebo, Nagasaki. The elevated single-platform stop sits adjacent to the Yonkachō shopping arcade, and a direct connecting passageway links it to Sasebo Kyosai Hospital. Until February 2022 a second passageway also linked the station to the AEON Sasebo store. Lift access opened on 12 March 2011, following elevator installation and station-building extension work that began in late December 2010. On 11 May 2015 the station gained the nickname "Saruku City 4-3 Arcade Station", referring to Japan's longest contiguous shopping arcade, which extends from the neighbouring Yonkachō arcade.

Notes

The station's official nickname references Japan's longest contiguous shopping arcade, which begins just outside its exit.
