History

Sanuki-Saida Station opened on 21 May 1923, when the Japanese Government Railways' Sanuki Line was extended from Kotohira to Sanuki-Saida, in what is now Saita-chō, Mitoyo, Kagawa Prefecture. The station, today carrying station number D18 and located at an elevation of 151.6 m, is the sole rail stop in the Saita district of Mitoyo. Although the place name is read "Saita", the station name takes the variant reading "Saida". Freight handling ended in 1970, the station was contracted out in 1983 and parcel handling ended in 1984 before the station was destaffed on 1 February 1985. JR Shikoku took over at the 1987 privatisation. The original 101-year-old wooden station building was demolished on 8 May 2024 because of age, and a new aluminium-roofed shelter opened on 31 July 2024.

Notes

An ancient tabunoki tree near the station entrance, designated Kagawa Prefectural Protected Tree No. 92 and estimated to be 700–800 years old, was carefully avoided during the building of the Dosan Line.
