History

Sannomiya-Hanadokeimae Station opened on 7 July 2001 as the eastern terminus of the Kobe Municipal Subway Kaigan Line. Its provisional name during construction was simply "Sannomiya," but it opened under the present, distinct name; the Sannomiya stations of the Seishin-Yamate Line, JR and the Port Island Line, and the Kobe-Sannomiya stations of Hankyū and Hanshin, are reached separately, on foot through the Santica underground mall. The suffix refers to the flower clock that once stood north of Kobe City Hall (since relocated to Higashi Yūenchi). The underground station has a single island platform with two tracks and is themed "Gateway to the City of Theatre." A planned extension toward HAT Kobe has been preserved in the structure, which continues east under the city road.

Notes

A demand forecast drawn up in fiscal 2000 projected about 21,652 boardings a day at the station for fiscal 2005, but ridership still stands at roughly a third of that figure.
