History

Sakurazaka Station opened on 3 February 2005 with the Fukuoka City Subway Nanakuma Line. The station, designed between February and November 2000 and built from March 2003 to July 2004, has been a business-outsourced operation since opening under Tenjin-Minami's managed area. The single island platform with two tracks sits beneath the Jōnan-sen avenue, slightly east of the site of the former Neribeichō stop on the Jōnan Line of the Nishitetsu Fukuoka City tram network. The station code is N12, and the station name literally means "cherry blossom slope" — the logo depicts seven cherry petals fluttering in the wind.

Notes

The 7-Eleven Sakurazaka store near the station has been visited by the singer Masaharu Fukuyama in tribute to his hit song "Sakurazaka," a connection he has mentioned on stage at a Fukuoka concert.
