History
Sakuramachi Station is a station on the Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central) Iida Line, located at Sakuramachi 2-chōme, Iida City, Nagano Prefecture. It opened on 3 August 1923 as Sakuramachi halt, a passenger station, when the Ina Electric Railway extended its line between Iida and Motozenkōji. On 1 August 1943 the Ina Electric Railway's line was nationalized as part of the Iida Line, becoming a station of the Ministry of Railways (later Japanese National Railways). Its facilities burned down in the Great Iida Fire of 20 April 1947; it became a commissioned-operation station in 1971 and was unstaffed in 1985. It passed to JR Central on 1 April 1987. It is a ground-level station with a single side platform serving one track, and is currently an unstaffed station managed by Iida Station.
Notes
Although Sakuramachi Station is farther from Iida Fūetsu High School than Iida Station in straight-line distance, walking access is faster from Sakuramachi, making it the effective nearest station for students.
