History

Sakuragaoka Station opened on 25 November 1952 on the Odakyu Electric Railway Enoshima Line, in Yamato, Kanagawa. It lies between Yamato and Kōza-Shibuya stations and carries number OE 06. A new overhead station building with an east–west free passageway entered service on 19 March 1978. The name was chosen because cherry-blossom spots were numerous around the station and the nearby place-name Sakurakabu suggested it; Sakurakabu itself was rejected because of the poor image left by an accident at the Sakurakabu level crossing before the station opened.
