History

Sakawa Station is a JR Shikoku stop on the Dosan Line in the town of Sakawa, Takaoka District, Kōchi Prefecture, numbered K13. It opened on 25 October 1924 as a new station when the predecessor Kōchi Line was extended between Togano and Nishisakawa, initially run by the state Japanese Government Railways. JNR's 1 April 1987 privatization passed the station to JR Shikoku. Rebuilt with two opposing side platforms by around 1989, it lost weekend staffing on 1 March 1994 and has been unstaffed daily since 29 December 2023. It has housed an unstaffed town tourist information centre since 4 March 2017. Besides local trains, the limited expresses Shimanto and Ashizuri call here; reaching Nanpū requires changing at Kōchi Station.

Notes
