History

Saiwai Station opened on 11 March 2000 on the Shimabara Railway Line, 2.9 km from the line's origin at Isahaya. It stands in a redeveloped district east of central Isahaya, with one south-side side platform and no station building, only a roof over the platform and a bicycle-parking area underneath. It is unattended and is operated by the third-sector Shimabara Railway. Shopping centres line National Route 57 south of the station, and many Nagasaki Prefectural Bus routes running to western Isahaya and to Nagasaki by way of central Isahaya start and terminate at the nearby Higashi-Kōseimachi stop.
