History
Saito-nishi Station opened on 19 March 2007, when the Osaka Monorail Saito Line was extended from Handai-byōin-mae, making it the line's terminus. The station lies in Ibaraki, Osaka Prefecture, inside the Saito International Cultural Park City new town, whose western district had opened to residents in 2004 — the trigger for the extension. The station's name, replacing the working title "Nishi Center Station", was decided on 22 April 2005, and platform doors were brought into service on 16 November 2019. Because the line runs through a cutting here, the station plaza is on the same level as the bridge-type concourse above the island platform; Saito-nishi and Banpaku-kinen-kōen are the only Osaka Monorail stations with such an overhead station building.
Notes
Because a future extension to Higashi-Center (provisional) was once envisioned, trains terminate via a turnback siding beyond the platforms; the siding runs beneath a public road, the only place on the Osaka Monorail where an ordinary road bridges over its own track.
